Pangea (or Pangaea) originates from the ancient supercontinent that existed when all Earth's continents were joined about 300 to 200 million years ago!

It was surrounded by a global ocean called Panthalassa. According to the theory of plate tectonics, it broke apart into Laurasia and Gondwana. The name comes from the Greek word for "all the Earth".
